『Final Concert 10-28-14』は、ロックグループのオールマン・ブラザーズ・バンドによるライブ・アルバムである。2014年10月28日にニューヨーク市のビーコン・シアターで録音された完全なコンサートを収録している。タイトルが示す通り、このアルバムは1969年に結成されたオールマン・ブラザーズ・バンドの最後のコンサートを記録したものだ。2014年初頭、彼らは年内に解散することを発表した。10月21日から28日にかけて、ビーコン・シアターで6回の最終公演を行い、最後のショーでは3セットの拡大公演を実施。ほとんどの楽曲は彼らの最初の5枚のアルバムから選ばれた。
「1991年にオールマン・ブラザーズ・バンドに加入した時、2人のドラマーと共にステージに立つパーカッショニストとして、自分がどんな世界に飛び込んだのか全く想像がつきませんでした」とパーカッショニストのマーク・キニョーネスは振り返る。「それから23年後、私たちがオールマン・ブラザーズ・バンドとして最後のショウを迎えた時、ABBという歴史的な音楽的力の一部になれたことを光栄に思いました。ABBよ永遠なれ！」ビーコン劇場はABBが最後の戦いを繰り広げるのにふさわしい場所だった。オールマンズはここで他のどの会場よりも多くの公演を行い、この由緒あるホールで237回連続のソールドアウトというブロードウェイ記録も樹立していた。1989年から始まったオールマンズのビーコン劇場での年次公演はマンハッタンの通過儀礼となり、ABB流の「マーチ・マッドネス」はNYCで春の訪れを告げる最初のサインとなった。世界中のファンがアッパー・ウェスト・サイドに集い、バンドの圧倒的なパフォーマンスに魅了された。デュアン・オールマンがかつて言ったように「私たちはここで宗教を広めている」のであり、ビーコン劇場は音楽の礼拝堂となったのである。まだ燃料が残ってはいたものの、バンドのメンバー——創設メンバーのグレッグ・オールマン（ハモンドB-3オルガン、ピアノ、アコースティック・ギター、ボーカル）、ジャイモー（ドラム）、ブッチ・トラックス（ドラム、ティンパニ）に加え、長年の仲間であるウォーレン・ヘインズ（リード＆スライドギター、ボーカル）、デレク・トラックス（リード＆スライドギター）、マーク・キニョーネス（コンガ、パーカッション、ボーカル）、オーティール・バーブリッジ（ベース、ボーカル）——は頂点で幕を閉じるのが最善だと結論づけた。バンドはキャリアの集大成となるセットリストを望んでいた。オリジナル・メンバー6人——デュアン、グレッグ、ジャイモー、ブッチ、ベリー・オークリー、ディッキー・ベッツ——への敬意を表しつつ、バンドの膨大なカタログから選曲したものだ。全員の意見を取り入れ、ウォーレン・ヘインズが3セットにわたる壮観なショウを構成した。6枚のABBアルバムから選ばれた約30曲に加え、バンドの音楽的軌跡を代表する3つの強力なカバー曲が並んだ。ウォーレンとデレクが演奏するデュアンの作曲「リトル・マーサ」の優しいフレーズで公演が始まり、「マウンテン・ジャム」の滾るティンパニのイントロが緊張感を高めると、バンドは後戻りせずに進んだ。最初のセットでABBは最高の状態を見せ、随所に輝きが散りばめられていた：グレッグの「ノット・マイ・クロス・トゥ・ベア」での唸り、ジャイモー、ブッチ、マークが叩き出す「ワン・ウェイ・アウト」、「ハイ・コスト・オブ・ロー・リビング」での高揚するギターの掛け合い、ディッキー・ベッツへのオマージュである「ブルー・スカイ」、そして「ユー・ドント・ラブ・ミー」に織り込まれた情感あふれる「ソウル・セレナーデ」のフレーズ。セット2ではクラシックABBナンバーが続き、スタンピングな「ステイツボロ・ブルース」、切ない「エイント・ウェイスティング・タイム・ノー・モア」、激しい「ザ・スカイ・イズ・クライイング」、幽玄な「ドリームズ」が演奏された。バンドは休憩を挟み、前例のない3セット目に突入——これはオールマン・ブラザーズ史上最も長い公演の一つとなった。優しい「メリッサ」でオールマン・ブラザーズ・バンド最後の幕が開き、再び「マウンテン・ジャム」へと回帰。そこにはこの編成では初演奏となる「ウィル・ザ・サークル・ビー・アンブロークン」への繊細な移行が含まれていた。オーティールの重低音ベースが「ウィッピング・ポスト」を引き起こすと、オールマン・ブラザーズ・バンドの全勢力が迸り、観客はそれを体験し記憶に刻むこととなった。公演後、グレッグ、ブッチ、ジャイモーが魅了された観客に思いを語り、ブッチは完璧な言葉を残した：「オールマン・ブラザーズ・バンドに始まりと終わりをつけよう…始まりの曲で締めくくる」。最後に、スピーカーからお馴染みの「トラブル・ノー・モア」の旋律が爆発的に響き渡った——短く、甘く、要点を突いた45年間が、4分間に凝縮されたのである。
