1978年までに、エアロスミスはアメリカを代表するロック・コンサートの呼び物となっていたため、その年にライブアルバム『Live Bootleg』という2枚組のアルバムがリリースされたのは自然な流れだった。当時の他のライブアルバムとは異なり、トラックを修正するためのオーバーダビングがほとんど行われていないことが明らかで、これにより、ドラッグ漬けでロックに没頭していたバンドの姿が爽快なまでにリアルに再現されている。すべてのパフォーマンスはタイラーとバンドメンバーによる1977年から1978年のアメリカツアーからのもので（1973年の2曲を除く）、アルバムのパッケージングとタイトルは、当時出回っていた音質の悪い非公式ライブ録音をネタにしたジョークだった。
