1968年に結成されたオリジナルのアリス・クーパー・バンドは、それまでに見たこともない衝撃的なシアトリカルなハードロックを確立しました。わずか5年の間に、彼らは7枚ものスタジオアルバムをリリースし、その中には国際的なブレイクスルーを果たした『School’s Out』（同名のトップ10ヒットを含む）や、1973年に全米1位を記録した『Billion Dollar Babies』が含まれていました。1974年までに、バンドはロックスターの頂点に上り詰めました…そして、解散したのです。
2015年10月、40年以上の時を経て、レコード店オーナーであり熱狂的なファンであるクリス・ペンは、オリジナル・メンバーに再結集を説得し、アメリカ・テキサス州ダラスにある自身のレコード店「グッド・レコード」で特別なパフォーマンスを行いました。アリス・クーパー（ボーカル）、マイケル・ブルース（ギター）、デニス・ダナウェイ（ベース）、ニール・スミス（ドラム）に加え、アリスの現ギタリストであるライアン・ロクシー（故グレン・バクストンの代役）がステージに立ちました。満員の観客はデニス・ダナウェイの著書『スネークス！ギロチン！エレクトリック・チェアーズ！』のサイン会に参加する予定でしたが、結果的に本格的なライブイベントを目撃することになりました。「ノー・モア・ミスター・ナイス・ガイ」「アイム・エイティーン」「スクールズ・アウト」などの不朽の名曲を含む伝説の再結成ショーが、今初めて全世界で公開されます。幸運にも、このイベントは映像にも収められました。ドキュメンタリー映画『ライブ・フロム・ジ・アストロターフ、アリス・クーパー』（スティーブン・ギャディス編集・監督）は、世界中の映画祭で音楽ファンやロック・ジャーナリストから熱烈な歓迎を受けました。このドキュメンタリーは、歴史的なイベントを記録した功績で数々の賞を受賞しています。この映画は、ライブアルバムの初回限定版CDおよびヴァイナルLPに収録されています。
