コロンビア・レコード／レガシー・レコーディングスは11月、ボブ・ディランのファンが待ち望んでいたボックスセットをリリースします。『More Blood, More Tracks: The Bootleg Series Vol. 14』は6枚組CDセットで、1974年に録音され1975年の名盤『Blood On The Tracks』へと結実したスタジオ録音から「現存する全テイク」（ニューヨーク・セッションの完全版を含む）を収録します。

この「厳密に限定された」デラックスセットと銘打たれた6枚組のパッケージには、「Tangled Up In Blue」「Simple Twist Of Fate」「Shelter From The Storm」の別バージョンが収録され、計70曲以上の未発表音源が初公開されています。「More Blood, More Tracks」の6CDデラックス版（2LPヴァイナル盤と単品CD版もあり）は、ニューヨーク・セッションの全録音を時系列順に収録。アウトテイクや false start、スタジオ内の会話まで網羅しています。リイシュー制作チームは可能な限り最良の音源を使用し、ほとんどの場合オリジナルのマルチトラック・セッション・テープを採用。ミネアポリス・セッションで現存する録音は、完成版『Blood On The Tracks』に収録された5曲のマルチトラック・マスターのみですが、これらもデラックス版のためにリミックス＆リマスターされています。パッケージは過去の『ブートレッグ・シリーズ』デラックス版と同様の仕様で、ハードカバー・ブックにはジェフ・スレートによる解説、写真集に加え、特に興奮するのはディランの伝説的な57ページに及ぶ手書きノートの完全復刻。『Blood On The Tracks』を構成する楽曲の歌詞がどのように発展していったかを追体験できます。ボブ・ディランの多岐にわたる『ブートレッグ・シリーズ』のファンにとって、『More Blood, More Tracks（Vol.14）』は彼の録音キャリアにおいて最も謎めき絡み合った物語への入り口です。この6枚組には1975年『Blood on the Tracks』の全セッション録音87トラック（大半が未発表）が収められ、この偉大なソングライターの最も不可解なアルバム誕生の過程を垣間見せてくれます。1974年9月16日、ディランはエンジニアのフィル・ラモーンと共にコロンビア・スタジオに入り、怒りと絶望、脆さが同時に迸る楽曲を録音。最初の妻サラとの離婚が進行中に書かれたこれらの曲は、頭韻法と比喩に包まれ、時間そのものが伸縮し過去と現在が複数の場所で入り混じり、新たな形で離合集散を繰り返します。主人公たちは一人称と三人称で語り、しばしば同じ節の中で切り替わりますが、一度耳にすれば忘れられない存在となるでしょう。ここに収録されているのはニューヨークでの4日間の全セッション録音で、初めて適正速度（ラジオ用にディランがラモーンにマスター・テープの速度を上げさせた）で、オリジナルテープに施されていた大幅なリバーブなしに時系列順に収録。これらの曲は白熱のインスピレーションの下、最初はディランのソロで、その後エリック・ワイスバーグ＆デリバランス率いるフォーク系バンドと共に録音されました。ディスク3から5に至ると、ディランのギターとハーモニカ、トニー・ブラウンのベース、時折のペダルスティールとオルガンを除く全ての伴奏が削ぎ落とされ、当時完成品と考えられていたアルバムの姿が現れます。12月末リリース予定でプロモーション計画が立案され、ジャケットが印刷され、テスト盤が配布された後も、ディランは納得していませんでした。結局バンド演奏の「Meet Me in the Morning」1曲のみを残し、プロデューサーでもある弟デイヴィッド・ジマーマンとミネソタでクリスマスを過ごした際、彼もまたこれらのトラックに熱意を感じていませんでした。ディランはレーベルに連絡しアルバムの発売延期を要求。12月27日、急遽集められた地元ミュージシャンと5曲を再録音し（ディスク6に収録）、『Blood on the Tracks』を完成させました。既に50万枚近くのジャケットが印刷されていたため、ミネソタのミュージシャンたちはクレジットされないままでした。この徹底的かつ魅力的な内容は、入念なリミックス作業により素晴らしい音質で蘇っています——どの音源も粗いデモテープのようには聞こえません。「Idiot Wind」の9テイクでは異なる歌詞が披露され、怒りと苦渋が渦巻いています。「You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go」は10数テイクを経て、ディラン最高のラブソングの一つとして徐々に姿を現します。15テイク収録の「You’re a Big Girl Now」は皮肉が剥がれ落ち、後悔に縛られた男の姿が露わになります。「Tangled Up in Blue」「Lily Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts」「Simple Twist of Fate」の複数バージョンは、これらの曲が最終形に至るまでに多くのヴァージョンが存在した証左です。ディランの絶え間ない書き直しと創造の流れは、false startや言葉に詰まる別テイク、スタジオでの会話、完全版での流れるようなインスピレーションとして、ありのまま捉えられています。何時間もの魅力的な発見がリスナーを待ち受け、この音楽はアルバムにまつわる神話について、答えと同じくらい多くの新たな疑問を投げかけます。内容的な自伝的要素については、幸いにも未だ明らかではありません。同梱のフォトブックはデラックス版の解説文と同じく必須のアイテムです。あらゆる面で、『More Blood, More Tracks』はポピュラー音楽史において極めて重要な資料であり、ディラン作品群の中の宝石と言えるでしょう。
